Event Overview
The 2026 GGR is the third of the modern era of Golden Globe Races. The first was in 2018 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the original Sunday Times race.
The 2018 race was a great success. Won by John LVH known as the father of French solo sailing it was hugely popular with the public. It proved to be equally as testing as the original 1968 race with all the drama that goes with the longest sporting event ever. Sailors will be at sea for around 250 days.
By the 2022 race many of the lessons of the previous races had been learned and the sailing was much more competitive. After sailing 30,000 miles around the globe the first three yachts finished within 24 hrs of each other.
