One of the core values of the GGR is its focus on renewable energy.
It will be the wind that takes the boats and their skippers around the planet.
The batteries will be charged by solar panels, wind generators or water turbines.
Every boat has an engine for emergency use but with a very limited and finite supply of fuel and a time penalty of two hours for every litre of diesel used.
Waste management is also a priority for the GGR participants.
Every boat must have a waste management plan as part of their entry process into the event.
Single use plastic is not permitted and all waste from food packaging must be brought back to land for recycling. Nothing is allowed to go overboard into the world’s oceans.
